The oculocardiac reflex refers to a decrease in pulse rate associated with traction applied to extraocular muscles and/or compression of the eyeball. This technique is especially sensitive in neonates and children. Asystolic cardiac arrest may serve as a major complication in response to this technique. Also known as: the Aschner phenomenon, Aschner reflex, Aschner-Dagnini reflex.
