Under NO conditions should women who are pregnant or trying to become pregnant take Accutane.

Accutane should be used with extreme caution under the supervision of a licensed physician. The use of this drug should be avoided in females attempting to conceive and/or engaging in unprotected sexual activity. Potential fetal side effects include: Cerebral abnormalities, hydrocephalus, lissencephaly, skull abnormalities, microcephaly, mental retardation, and ventricular/atrial septal defects. Various other abnormalities and side effects have been noted. Additionally, many malformed infants exhibit several of the stated abnormalities concomitantly. Fetal death is also common.

Medical specialists require that two forms of birth control are used if taking Accutane. Extreme vigilance must be practiced for at least one month after completing Accutane.
