Definition

Like all forms of radiotherapy, proton beam therapy aims ionizing radiation at a tumor. A cyclotron and magnetic fields direct the protons to the tumor. Medical researchers are excited because proton therapy is noninvasive and painless. Proton therapy is most precise form of radiation treatment used for cancer, and it promises to leave surrounding health tissue and organs intact and unharmed.
