What is WikiHealth?

WikiHealth is a collaborative writing project aiming to build an extensive and valueable repository on a variety of health and wellness topics. Our mission is to bring free, accesible and thorough information on health and wellness into the homes of every individual worldwide. The goal is for new articles on any health and wellness topic to be added regularly and for existing articles to be improved by volunteer contributors. In time, we envision WikiHealth to be the best health resource to come to for unbiased information as well as perscriptive advice on any health or wellness topic. Please join us by writing a new article or editing an existing one.

Why did we start WikiHealth?

The desire to start a health-oriented content website began a number of years ago when we (the founders) were faced with our own personal and serious health problems. It was not until 2005, that we decided to pursue this dream. We believe that wellness is a human right.

We have spent years trying to use the Internet to find answers to our own health-related questions as well as to share our own learnings. We strongly believe that the value of information sharing on all sorts of health and wellness issues is immense; and no place exists where you can learn and contribute in this type of structured and organized way.

How does WikiHealth work?

WikiHealth is a wiki, which is a web site that anyone can write and anyone can edit. Any visitor to WikiHealth can create a new page to write an article on a health-related topic. Once the page is submitted, any other visitor can edit, improve or change the page. Over time, the quality of the content increases as many people, with different types of knowledge, make improvements. All changes on the site are displayed on "recent changes" and also in the "page history" of every specific page. WikiHealth works because we trust our users to behave in a manner which helps others. As a result our users quickly remove vandalism, nonsense, and material not appropriate for WikiHealth. The end result is richer, more current, and more relevant information that helps people looking to improving their health and lives.

How can I help?

Share your knowledge by writing a new page by clicking "Create New Article" in the navigation bar on the right. If you need ideas of topics to write you can review the [popular articles] section . You can also contribute by editing an existing page that someone else wrote. If you find something that could be improved, please change the page by pressing the "Edit" tab at the top of each article. Read this page to learn more ways to contribute to wikiHow.

How does WikiHealth support itself financially?

WikiHeatlh needs funds to sustain its operations, but rather than ask our users for contributions, we have chosen to display tasteful,non-obnoxious advertising on the website. We adamantly refuse to allow pop-up ads, ads with annoying graphics or sounds, spyware, scumware, spam, or other forms of advertising which annoy our users or violate their privacy. We think that tasteful advertising is the most unobtrusive way to fund our operations. We also have set up the site so that Users who are 'logged in' will not see any advertising.
